The predecessor of Wuhan University of Technology was the Hubei Arts and Crafts School, which was founded in 1898 at the request of the Qing government by the Governor of Huguang, Zhang Zhidong，After the Central South School of Architectural Engineering, Central South College of Transportation, Wuhan Institute of Technology and other inheritance and development，In 2000, it was founded by the merger of the former Wuhan University of Technology, Wuhan Jiaotong University and Wuhan Automotive Industry University, which were affiliated to the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Communications and the China Automotive Industry Corporation。
